Evidence-based acupuncture for integrated, whole-person care

Alun is a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and holds a Professional Licentiate in Traditional Acupuncture, an honours degree-level qualification accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB). He adopts a comprehensive and holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on treating the individual as a whole rather than solely addressing symptoms. By identifying and correcting underlying imbalances, Alun supports the body’s natural capacity to restore homeostasis and equilibrium, enabling patients to achieve a deeper sense of harmony, improved resilience and wellbeing.

Acupuncture for your health

Acupuncture is a gentle, holistic therapy that uses fine needles to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and restore balance. It is widely used in the UK for musculoskeletal pain, migraines and headaches, digestive issues, stress, anxiety and sleep problems.

Conditions people often come for help with:

  • Insomnia and fatigue
  • Migraines and chronic tension‑type headaches
  • Stress, anxiety and low mood
  • Back, neck, shoulder and knee pain
  • Digestive issues such as IBS and bloating
  • Menopause symptoms

Evidence summaries from the British Acupuncture Council highlight growing research for many of these conditions, including chronic pain, headaches, nausea and mental health. Many people also report feeling calmer, more energised and better able to cope with everyday life after a course of treatment.

Safe, professional care

Acupuncture is considered safe when provided by a properly trained practitioner using single‑use, sterile needles. It is designed to work alongside conventional medicine, not replace it, and you will always have time to discuss your health concerns and whether acupuncture is suitable for you.

Before your treatment

You’ll be able to talk through what you’d like help with and how it affects your daily life. I may ask about things like your sleep, digestion, energy levels and any medication you’re taking. It will be a relaxed conversation and you’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

Holistic diagnosis

Initial diagnosis will include looking at your tongue and feeling the pulses on your wrists. In traditional acupuncture these give extra clues about your overall energetic balance. Together with your medical and lifestyle history, this helps me decide which acupuncture points are likely to support you best.

Your personalised treatment plan

Once I have all this information, I will put together a treatment plan tailored to you and your goals. I’ll explain what I’ve noticed, how acupuncture may help, and how many sessions I’m likely to recommend. There’s always time to ask questions so you feel clear and at ease before any needles are used.

During the treatment

The needles I use are very fine, so most people are surprised by how comfortable treatment feels. Many patients describe a deep sense of relaxation during and after a session, and it’s not unusual to feel calmer and more at ease.

You might notice a brief, mild sensation or a feeling of gentle pressure as a needle goes in, but this usually settles within a few moments. I’ll always check in with you and can adjust what I’m doing so you feel safe, relaxed and looked after throughout your treatment.

After your session

I may suggest simple things you can do at home, such as stretches, breathing practices or small lifestyle tweaks such as dietary changes, to support your progress between sessions. Follow‑up appointments are a chance to review how you’re getting on and adjust your treatment so you can keep moving towards your longer‑term health and wellbeing goals.
